Lately, fake Seiko watches have been flooding online platforms, hurting legitimate dealers and deceiving countless customers. It's time to take a stand. Spotting these fakes is easy if you know what to look for, and together we can protect our rights as consumers.
Why It Matters?
Getting duped is a hit to your pride and your wallet. Your might think, "Ouch... the real deal is pricier than I thought." But supporting counterfeit markets damages the industry and your consumer rights. What do you get when you buy a fake? Zero support. No warranties. No accountability. When things go wrong, you're left in the lurch, with no one to help you.
How to Identify a Fake Seiko?
So, here's the tips for you:
- Price too good to be true. If it's around US$100, it's undoubtedly fake.
- There's no original parts returned after each of the mod.
- NH35 movement instead of Seiko's own movement.
With above tips you can definitely tell that it is a fake Seiko watch.
Legal Points of Views:
It's illegal to use parts or watches with trademarks of other brands without authorization. Many sellers online are slapping the Seiko name on unauthorized watches. This is against the law. These fraudsters claim their watches are made in Japan and original Seiko with international warranties. Don't be fooled. These watches have zero warranty, and when issues arise, the sellers disappear with your money.

CWH is referring to fake/replica watches, not homage watches.
- A FAKE/REPLICA watch makes unauthorized use of trademarked brand names, logos, and text (Superlative Chronometer, for example, is trademarked by Rolex S.A. Geneva). If a watch that was not manufactured by Rolex says Rolex on the dial, it is a fake Rolex. This same logic applies to watches not manufactured by Seiko that say Seiko on their dials. Some may indeed have movements by Seiko but even these are not factory made by Seiko, have no Seiko warranty, and are most often made of mostly/entirely non-Seiko parts.
- An HOMAGE watch resembles but is not made by the original company and also does not have the brand name, logo, or other trademarks of the original company. For example, a watch that looks like a Rolex Submariner but has the name “San Martin”, “CWH”, “Steinhart”, etc. and also does NOT say “Submariner” (trademarked model name) on the dial.
I wear and enjoy watches by many different brands from sub-$100 Ali Express watches, Casio, Swatch and Fossil up to and including my 79230N, 126610, 16220, and many others. By the same token I do not wear or support replica/fake watches.
Hey John Bercic, thank you for your valuable thoughts. The brands you mentioned are not fake. What is fake is creating a watch from scratch and putting Seiko as the brand name on it. This is the key issue we are discussing ;)
The problem is that these homage and fake watches are better than the originals in many cases. Brands like Heimdallar, San Martine, Addies Dive etc on Alixpress are 1/2 the price or less with better components and better alignment.
Great Tips!
